Food Recovery in Marin County: By rescuing excess fresh food from businesses and immediately delivering it to nonprofits serving Marin’s most vulnerable children, adults, and families, we address the critical issues of hunger, wasted food, and the climate crisis.

We've delivered 3,393,326 pounds of food to 124 sites in Marin, keeping 278,855 pounds of methane from warming our planet & reaching 8,500 people every month.

Marin Catholic High School

Marin Catholic, located in Kentfield and founded in 1949, is a Catholic, co-ed college prep high school with an enrollment of 780 students. We have been fortunate to work with a student advocate, Claire B. who has been instrumental in getting their culinary team to start donating the excess food from the cafeteria. We received our first donation a couple of weeks ago and look forward to many more. Claire is watching their events calendar, as well, to support efforts to donate excess food from their many yearly school events.

Riva N.

Riva has been a loyal volunteer with ExtraFood since March 2014 and has recently hit a milestone of 200 trips! Even more incredible is that Riva has completed over 100 trips just this year. Riva has been very dedicated to the Peets Coffee trips on Wednesdays and Fridays and also our Mulberry Street Pizza trip on Thursdays.

Riva is a welcome visitor at People’s Inter-Cities Fellowship and at Performing Stars in Marin City. Recently Riva has added another trip with one of our new donors – Golden Gate Market. We are truly grateful to Riva for her dedication and commitment to being an amazing ambassador for ExtraFood in the community.

Peoples Inter-cities Fellowship

This Marin City-based church has become one of the largest recipients of ExtraFood’s food donations. Their first donation was in May of 2016 and their food pantry has grown by leaps and bounds ever since. They now have a grocery bag delivery service, which church volunteers bring to homebound seniors, and their bi-weekly food pantry serves people across Marin City, as well as, the “anchor out” community in Sausalito. Leticia, known for her big smile and hugs and the inability to say “no” to any food donations, is always welcoming to our volunteers. She recently welcomed the new donation from Marin Catholic and hopes for many more!
