Food Recovery in Marin County: By rescuing excess fresh food from businesses and immediately delivering it to nonprofits serving Marin’s most vulnerable children, adults, and families, we address the critical issues of hunger, wasted food, and global warming.

We've delivered 2,301,678 pounds of food to 114 sites in Marin, preventing 189,150 pounds of methane from warming our planet & reaching 8,000+ people every month.

Community Spotlight

Novato Community Hospital

Novato Community Hospital is a not-for-profit community-based hospital dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care. A small boutique hospital, NCH has a close-knit team that offers one-on-one, concierge-like care in a quiet, modern setting. Their commitment to caring extends beyond the hospital walls through the thrice-weekly donations of prepared food they provide to ExtraFood. Our friends at EAH Housing’s Mackey Terrace Senior Housing and Homeward Bound’s New Beginnings Center are truly grateful for these wonderful donations.

Siobhan S.

Siobhan has been volunteering with ExtraFood for just two years and has already delivered over 11,000 pounds of food to support our friends in need. Soon after starting with us, she took “ownership” of our Friday Marinwood Market pickup. But her service doesn’t stop there; she also jumps in to fill open trips in the Central and North Marin areas whenever she can, which is a huge help to us. We are so touched by Siobhan’s commitment to helping eliminate food waste and hunger in Marin!

Homestead Terrace

Marin Housing Authority’s Homestead Terrace provides 28 studio units to very low income, independent seniors and disabled people in beautiful Mill Valley. We deliver healthy food to them several times a week from our friends at Whole Foods, Mill Valley, AIM Farmers Markets, Wise Sons Bagelry, and Woodlands Markets in Tiburon and Kentfield. It’s always a pleasure to work with Gerrie at Homestead Terrace, who takes such care in receiving and sorting the donations for residents to easily grab whenever they need a quick snack or meal.
