Food Recovery in Marin County: By rescuing excess fresh food from businesses and immediately delivering it to nonprofits serving Marin’s most vulnerable children, adults, and families, we address the critical issues of hunger, wasted food, and the climate crisis.

We've delivered 3,670,444 pounds of food to 124 sites in Marin, keeping 301,471 pounds of methane from warming our planet & reaching 8,000 people every month.

Classic Culinaire

Caterers don’t often have food to donate but when they do, ExtraFood is delighted to pick up their excess food. Prepared food is always so well received by our recipients especially because Marin County caterers prepare some of the best food in the country. Classic Culinaire is no exception. A Novato-based business founded in 2007 by Chef Chad Carlstedt, a graduate of the California Culinary Academy, Classic Culinaire caters to all kinds of occasions in Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco, and Marin. Chad strongly believes in supporting local farms and food purveyors and uses only the freshest ingredients from local sources whenever possible.

Hank M.

Hank has been a loyal, core member of our volunteer team for 5+ years and we are SO grateful! Recently he became one of the very few volunteers who has completed 600 food trips— and has recovered over 27,000 pounds of food! Hank regularly picks up donations from Fairfax Market and owns two trips each week out to San Geronimo Valley Community Center. He was also a regular at our Byte distribution on Mondays and still finds time to pick up other trips throughout the month. Our partners in San Geronimo look forward to seeing Hank arrive each week, and enjoy his high energy and sense of humor!
