By rescuing excess fresh food from businesses, securing freshly-made meals, and immediately delivering the food to nonprofits serving Marin’s most vulnerable children, adults, and families, we address the critical issues of hunger, wasted food & climate change.

We've delivered 4,127,154 pounds of food to 129 sites in Marin, keeping 333,951 pounds of methane from warming our planet & reaching 8,000 people every month.

Community Spotlight

Classic Culinaire Catering Service

Classic Culinaire Catering Service has donated their excess fresh food to ExtraFood since November 2018 and recently began making meals for Marin families in need through ExtraFood’s Community Meals program. Founded in 2007 by Executive Chef Chad Carlstedt, they deliver world-class culinary experiences – at weddings, corporate events, birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions – in Marin, Napa, Sonoma, and San Francisco. Their caterers focus on providing two things: delicious food and exceptional service. Believing strongly in supporting local farms and food purveyors, they use only the freshest ingredients, locally sourced whenever possible.’s Community Meals program is now giving more than 50,000 freshly-made meals to people in need throughout Marin during the crisis thanks to partners like Classic Culinaire.

Lisa L.

Lisa L. has been a volunteer with ExtraFood since November 2019, and has completed 88 food trips and recovered over 14,000 pounds of food. Lisa does several trips every weekend and jumps in with a trip or two during the week when she can. Lisa began her food trips right after orientation and she hasn’t stopped since, with over 10 trips per month.

Lisa picks up often from MarinHealth Medical Center, Nugget Corte Madera and the Farmers’ Markets. Lisa’s warm and friendly personality always makes her a welcome sight for our friends at St Andrew Presbyterian Church and People’s Inter-Cities Fellowship.

Lisa recently decided to “own” a trip on the weekends and we appreciate her loyalty to ExtraFood.

Thank you Lisa for your hard work and commitment - you are a great ambassador for ExtraFood and truly making a difference in your Marin community!

Marguerita C. Johnson Senior Center

The senior center’s lunch program provides home-delivered meals to homebound seniors in Marin City. When the pandemic hit Marin, the Marin City community saw a huge increase in the need to get healthy meals to low-income seniors who needed to quarantine at home, shop less for groceries and eat as healthy as possible. Program Coordinator Juanita Edwards is ensuring that vulnerable seniors are receiving healthy meals 5 days a week. Juanita commented, “We went from serving approximately 45 seniors pre-pandemic to more than tripling that number in a short time. We are now delivering food to 98 households, serving over 125 seniors. Everyone is so appreciative of these meals and are hoping the program continues for awhile.”

For a period of 8 weeks starting in the early stages of the Shelter In Place order, ExtraFood provided 150 meals per week made by our Community Meals partner Insalata’s. Following that, the senior center has continued to receive meals on a weekly basis from ExtraFood’s Community Meals partners Christopher’s Fine Catering and Classic Culinaire. Thanks to our Community Meals partners for their creative collaboration in giving tasty and nutritious meals to those who need them the most. We’re in this together!
