In 1987, Mary Risley, a renowned Chef and owner of Tante Marie Cooking School, with a small group of concerned professionals came up with a simple idea: donate food from those who have too much to those who have too little. She persuaded some colleagues in the food industry to save their excess food, which she and a few friends picked up in their cars and delivered to local shelters and food programs.
Today, Food Runners has over 250 active volunteers, and more than 450 restaurants, caterers, grocery stores, farmers’ markets and other businesses regularly donate perishable and prepared foods.
Food Runners is now an ExtraFood program and we are thrilled to have them on our food recovery team.
Note: We are unable to accept donations from residences

"Please know that because of Food Runners, we have managed to feed our students each week with healthy foods, some treats, lots of toast and innovative creations from the donations. I CAN NOT thank you enough for you and your team's efforts. It makes the biggest difference to be able to offer food to a population of students who may or may not have a healthy meal or snack during their school day. Please know how much Downtown High Wellness Center appreciates you, your staff and the Food Runners mission."
