This month, we're excited to shine a spotlight on Alice Ostrovsky!
Since joining ExtraFood in October 2025, Alice has completed 83 food rescues and delivered nearly 10,000 pounds of food to the community. A regular at the Vivalon pantry food rescue on Fridays, she also loves picking up grocery and prepared food.
After taking early retirement, Alice found herself with more time and energy to give back. While she was committed to spending time with family, she also realized she wanted to stay connected to her community in a meaningful way. With a lifelong love of food and cooking, ExtraFood felt like the perfect fit. As a new volunteer, Alice appreciated how easy it was to get started. The Volunteer Portal, clear instructions, and support from staff helped make the onboarding process simple and welcoming.
When asked what advice she would give to new volunteers, Alice highlighted one of ExtraFood's greatest strengths: flexibility.
"You can start small with no pressure. It's really up to you to make it your own experience. I would encourage new volunteers to try a variety of different rescues and then find what fits them best."
