The Voices and Music Behind A Taste of Hope

October 28, 2026 /

A Taste of Hope was an afternoon filled with delicious food, inspiring stories, and the generosity of a community coming together to fight hunger and food waste. Beyond the incredible menu, the event gave us an opportunity to hear directly from the people who make ExtraFood’s work possible and see the impact of food recovery across the Bay Area.

The Voices Behind A Taste of Hope

We were grateful to hear from a wonderful group of speakers who shared their perspectives on food recovery, community partnerships, and the difference ExtraFood makes every day.

  • Dave Knego of Curry Senior Center: Dave shared the perspective of one of ExtraFood’s recipient partners in San Francisco and the importance of getting nutritious food to the people who need it.
  • Chef David Murphy and Kayla Abe of Shuggie’s: Our talented culinary partners shared in the spirit of the event, celebrating creative cooking and the possibilities of making delicious food while reducing waste.
  • Shelley White, ExtraFood’s San Francisco Volunteer: Shelley shared her personal experience volunteering with ExtraFood and the impact of food recovery in her community.
  • Gerry Morgan, Chair of ExtraFood’s Board of Directors: Gerry spoke to the dedication of ExtraFood’s volunteers and the community that makes our mission possible.
  • Will Dittmar, CEO of ExtraFood: Will shared ExtraFood’s vision for recovering more surplus food, feeding more people, and building a more sustainable Bay Area.

Music to Bring Us Together

Adding to the afternoon’s joyful atmosphere, Dore Collier and the Bermuda Grass Triangle brought live music that helped make A Taste of Hope a memorable celebration. Their performance was the perfect soundtrack for an afternoon centered on food, community, and hope.

Hope in Action

Thank you to everyone who made A Taste of Hope such a special afternoon. Together, we’re building a Bay Area where good food reaches people instead of going to waste.

FEED MORE. WASTE LESS.
