The Next Generation Is Taking Notice: Redwood Bark Covers A Taste of Hope

At ExtraFood, we believe creating a community where good food feeds people instead of going to waste takes all of us. And we're especially encouraged when the next generation takes an interest in that mission.

We were honored to see The Redwood Bark, Redwood High School's student-run newspaper, cover our recent A Taste of Hope fundraiser and shine a spotlight on the work happening across the Bay Area to fight hunger and food waste.

Written by News Editor Calista Grigg, the article captured the spirit of the afternoon, highlighting the people, partnerships, and purpose behind ExtraFood's work. It also explored the growing need for food recovery and the impact of getting surplus food into the hands of people who need it.

What makes this coverage particularly special is that it comes from the students themselves. Young people are not just the next generation of community leaders; they are already asking important questions, telling meaningful stories, and helping bring attention to issues that affect their neighbors.

As a Redwood High School parent and a longtime supporter of youth involvement in our community, we're especially grateful to see students taking an interest in food insecurity, food waste, and the ways we can make a difference together.

We hope this is just one example of a growing interest among young people in food recovery and community service. Through programs like Share the Bounty, including student-led clubs at Redwood and Tamalpais High Schools, we're seeing students turn that interest into action by harvesting surplus produce and getting it to neighbors who need it.

The future of food recovery depends on people who care enough to get involved, speak up, and inspire others to take action. We're proud to see the next generation helping move this conversation forward.

A big thank-you to Calista Grigg and the entire Redwood Bark team for highlighting A Taste of Hope and helping spread the word about ExtraFood's mission.

We're honored to have young voices advocating for a more thoughtful, sustainable, and food-secure community.
