Making a Difference, One Farmers Market at a Time
For Rebecca Nessel, volunteering with ExtraFood is a family tradition rooted in service, connection, and making a meaningful impact.
Rebecca first became involved through the National League of Young Men, an organization that brings mothers and sons together to develop life skills and give back to their communities. For the past five years, she and her family have helped glean surplus produce from local farmers markets, with Rebecca stepping into a leadership role two years ago.
“ExtraFood hits everything: the environment, food waste, and then those that can get the food,” Rebecca shares. Inspired by the mission, her family began participating in other food rescues, too. Her son has even returned home from college to help!
For Rebecca, volunteering is both rewarding and a priority for her family. “It feels like you're making an impact - directly.”
Thank you, Rebecca, for your dedication, leadership, and for showing us how giving back can bring families together while making a real difference in our community!
