We are thrilled to share that we received a substantial CDFA grant aimed at expanding refrigeration capacity, significantly enhancing our ability to rescue and redistribute fresh, healthy food to food-insecure individuals across Sonoma, Marin, and San Francisco counties. This generous grant will enable us to provide 37 new refrigeration and freezer units to 22 of our food distribution partner sites.
To date we have delivered fridges and freezers to 7 locations including 2 at our SOUPer Food Kitchen so we can increase our capacity to create soups and stews from recovered ingredients and deliver them to people facing hunger.
These efforts will primarily serve low-income to extremely low-income individuals, including seniors, veterans, BIPOC individuals and families, homeless individuals, people with disabilities, and those in mental health or substance abuse facilities. The expanded capacity will bolster our ability to support these communities, who have been disproportionately affected by rising living costs.
Kurtis at City Team in San Francisco says: "This is a huge help, we’ve only been able to store around a weeks' worth the meat for our dinner services. With the new fridge we can now store two weeks' worth of meat, it will allow us to focus more on other aspects of our work. Being able to focus on the community more and worry less about the storage capacity. This is huge for us being able to store enough meat for over 7,000 meals - it is amazing."
We are proud to be able to provide this service to many of our incredible recipient partners including Healthright 360 and Haight Ashbury Food Pantry in San Francisco and the Theological Seminary in San Anselmo. We will continue to update our community with new locations and the people we are supporting with fresh healthy food.
