1000!!!! ExtraFood volunteer Dennis O. just reached a massive milestone of completing 1000 food rescues! Dennis became a volunteer in 2018 and has rescued over 70,000 pounds of food. In 2020 during the height of Covid restrictions, Dennis wanted to ensure that our mission could continue by doubling the number of food trip shifts he completed each week, to help fill the trips that were not able to be filled by volunteers that needed to shelter in place. Dennis was one of ExtraFood’s “go-to” volunteers as we navigated the many changes necessary to keep our mission alive to deliver food to those in need and in 2020 Dennis was recognized as ExtraFood's Volunteer of the Year.
Dennis owns a regular trip every Saturday from Trader Joe's to People's Inter-Cities Fellowship, where he and his wife Vicki team up to fill two cars full of approximately 1000 pounds of food each week. Dennis truly embodies ExtraFood’s values, as reflected in our motto: “Food recovery with the human touch". We are very grateful to Dennis for his incredible dedication, loyalty, and support - he has truly made a difference in our community!
