We had a great time celebrating our Marin volunteers on Sunday, May 19th at Elk's Lodge in San Rafael.
This event provided a fantastic opportunity for our volunteers to connect with each other and the ExtraFood staff. We shared many memorable food rescue stories—some funny, some touching, and even a few bloopers. It was also a chance for our team to express our heartfelt appreciation for your incredible dedication, hard work, and countless contributions. Thank you for all that you do!
1,000 Food Rescues!
Jay and Hoang are two Marin volunteers that were recently recognized for completing 1000 food rescues with ExtraFood! These volunteers join a very small group of only six Marin volunteers that have ever achieved this amazing milestone.
Jay jumped in with gusto in May 2022 and hasn’t stopped! Currently Jay has completed 1112 food rescues and recovered 86,000+ pounds in less than 2 years! He does over 10 regular food rescues every week! Safeways, Whole Foods, Nugget stores and even the Larkspur Farmers market on Saturdays. Jay was also volunteer of the year for 2023.
Hoang started volunteering with ExtraFood in May 2017 at the Marin Farmers' market. Now she has 5 regular food rescues each week - large stores like Costco, Safeway and Nugget in addition to the market. She currently has completed 1050 food rescues and recovered over 155,000 pounds of food. Hoang was the volunteer of the year for 2021.
