We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you. We have successfully recovered and redistributed 10 million pounds of surplus fresh food, marking a momentous achievement in our mission to combat hunger and wasted food in the Bay Area. This milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and unwavering support of our community.
In August of 2021 we reached a milestone of 5 million pounds of food rescued, and with our incredible growth we have doubled that amount in a short period of time. Our mission in Marin and Sonoma is going strong and with the addition of San Francisco Food Runners into our food recovery program, we have seen a massive increase in the amount of food to rescue and deliver to people facing hunger and to be kept out of landfills.
Every pound represents a meal served, a family supported, and a step toward a more sustainable future.
We are immensely grateful for your continued support and collaboration, which have been instrumental in reaching this milestone. Whether you've volunteered your time, donated resources, or helped spread awareness about our cause, your contributions have made a meaningful difference in the lives of many.
While we celebrate this achievement, we recognize that our work is far from over. There are still so many individuals and families in our community who struggle to access nutritious food, and there is still surplus fresh food going to waste. However, with the momentum of this milestone behind us, we are more determined than ever to continue our efforts and make an even greater impact in the days ahead.
We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone and reaffirming our commitment to creating a more food-secure and sustainable future for all. Together, we can build a community where no one goes hungry, and surplus fresh food is utilized to its fullest potential.
From all of us at ExtraFood, we thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our mission. We look forward to continuing this journey with you and making a positive difference in the lives of people in need.
