Next Generation, a long time ExtraFood Recipient, believes that equal access to higher education for students from low-income families is the key to making positive changes within our community. They combine a rigorous academic program with community-building activities and wrap-around social services, a food pantry being one of them.
Jessuina and the team at Next Gen work to sort ExtraFood donations to make grocery bags for their students’ working families. Produce and other protein is also set aside to be prepared as meals for the kids. A favorite being fresh produce from Share the Bounty Program – Apples are cut up and offered as snacks or included in grocery care packages.
With an increased demand in the last 3 months, Jessuina says, “It is a true gift. A client last week walked out with a bag of chicken and ground beef and she said this means two meals for her family that week. That makes all the difference. Because of consistent deliveries, and ExtraFood listening to our requests, we can help create some stability in their lives.”
Thank you Next Gen for your partnership and the continued work to feed and support our community.
