St. Francis Community Pantry: Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Novato
Four years ago, a group of concerned Novato residents recognized a growing need in their community and approached St. Francis Church to help address food insecurity. What began as a grassroots effort has grown into the St. Francis Community Pantry, a trusted resource serving Novato residents with dignity and compassion.
Powered entirely by volunteers and supported by partnerships with the church, the church preschool, and the wider community, the pantry is open twice a week and serves 30–50 patrons during each distribution. The pantry welcomes everyone in need, including individuals experiencing homelessness, low-income families, and seniors, offering essential hygiene products and choice-model groceries.
Thanks in part to food donations from ExtraFood, the pantry has been able to expand beyond nonperishable items and hygiene supplies to include fresh produce and other nutritious foods. As pantry organizer Michelle explains, “We would not have any fresh produce if it wasn’t for ExtraFood. Now we can provide healthier food options, and it’s made such a difference.”
We are grateful for the dedication of the volunteers and community members who make the St. Francis Community Pantry possible. Thank you for all you do to support and nourish the Novato community.
