Thank You to the Outdoor Art Club for Supporting Food Rescue and Sustainability in Marin!

ExtraFood is deeply grateful to the Outdoor Art Club for their generous grant supporting the expansion of our farm and community garden gleaning program. This partnership will help us continue our mission to end hunger and reduce methane gas emissions by eliminating food waste right here in Marin County.

With the Outdoor Art Club’s support, ExtraFood will strengthen the impact of our Share the Bounty initiative — a program that connects community gardeners, home growers, and local farms with neighbors in need. Through this grant, we’re able to expand our capacity to recover even more surplus produce that might otherwise remain unharvested, all while nourishing food-insecure residents with fresh, healthy meals.

🌱 How This Grant Will Make a Difference

The funding from the Outdoor Art Club will directly support three key areas of growth:

1. Recruiting and Training Additional Volunteers
By bringing new volunteers into the program, we can glean from more farms, community gardens, and backyard growers. With more hands helping harvest, ExtraFood will be able to recover a greater volume of fresh produce that might otherwise go to waste.

2. Supporting Staff Time for Program Coordination
Expanding staff hours will allow our operations team to collect and transport more perishable food using our fleet of refrigerated trucks. This ensures that rescued produce reaches people in need quickly and safely.

3. Developing and Distributing Educational Materials
To reach more community members, ExtraFood will create educational resources that highlight the importance of food waste prevention, gleaning, and sustainability. These materials will help onboard new donors and volunteers, building a strong, long-term network of food rescue champions.

🍅 Our 2025 Goals

With this support, ExtraFood aims to:

  • Recruit 20 new farms and 40 new community or home gardens to join our gleaning network
  • Harvest an additional 15,000 pounds of fresh produce, preventing approximately 35 tons of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Transform that rescued produce into 12,500 nutritious, prepared meals through our SOUPer Food Kitchenprogram
  • Inspire greater community awareness and participation in food waste prevention

💚 Building a Healthier, More Sustainable Marin

Thanks to the Outdoor Art Club’s generosity, ExtraFood is taking another meaningful step toward a healthier, more equitable, and more sustainable Marin County. Together, we are rescuing excess food, reducing waste, feeding neighbors, and protecting our planet — one harvest at a time.
